The Pebble Creek Tuesday flight has elected to leave the Holmdel Golf League. The flight will continue, using a different league format. If you played in Pebble Creek Tuesday last year, you will be contacted directly by the flight secretary, and won't follow typical signup procedures.

July 25, 2023
We're back online! On July 15, 2023, the league website went dark, as our hosting company unexpectedly closed their datacenter. We took advantage of a migration offer to a new hosting company and began to rebuild the site. We're fully functional now; however, if you encounter anything that doesn't work the way it used to do, please let us know.

March 1, 2023:
Course ratings for all the courses we play have been updated in the handicap software, to match the values found in the USGA National Course Rating Database. Generally, the ratings changed by just a few tenths of a stroke per nine holes.

March 12, 2020:
The USGA and The R&A made some significant changes to the handicap system for use in 2020. We implemented the new maximum handicap, new handicap formula, and new stroke-control rules. We will not implement the course handicap/playing handicap change, playing conditions adjustment, and safeguards. Please have a look at What is the World Handicap System?
Old (pre-2020) New (beginning 2020)
Maximum handicap (9-hole) 19 27
Handicap Formula Based on 96% of the best 10 of last 20 rounds Based on 100% of the best 8 of last 20 rounds
Equitable Stroke Control
9-hole handicap Maximum Score
4 or less Double Bogey
5 - 9 7
10 - 14 8
15 - 19 9
Net Double Bogey

Most folks will see some slight movement in their handicaps prior to the start of the season. The maximum handicap change should allow all league golfers the opportunity to play competitive matches.

March 1, 2019:
The USGA and The R&A made some significant changes to the rules for 2019. If you're watched any golf on television this winter, you have seen a number of professional golfers putt with the flagsticks in, or stoop down to take ball drops from knee-high. Most of these changes apply to our league play, as they are not ammended by any of the club's local rules. Please have a look at Golf's New Rules: Major Changes.

March 1, 2019:
The Holmdel Golf League, in keeping with the spirit of our competition, endorses the USGA's and R&A's "Maximum Score" form of play. For our competitions, the maximum score a player can take on any hole is capped at double par. It is understood that this change may affect the outcome of matches. This change may also have an impact on handicaps for some players. While we expect all flights to adopt this form of play, individual flights are free to opt out.
