Hominy Hill Monday Flight Policies

Hominy Hill Monday Flight Policies

  1. FLIGHT SECRETARY: The flight secretary for this flight is Zach Gilstein, zachmate2@gmail.com, 908-216-8220.

  2. DUES: League dues (aka prize fees) for this year are $20. Payment options are cash, Venmo, or PayPal to Zach. Dues go toward end-of-season prizes, plus a league fee for maintaining the website. According to the league rules, prize fees “are due prior to the day of the first scheduled match” otherwise “a handicap penalty of one stroke will be assessed for the first match, and one additional stroke for each additional week the fee is overdue.” Let's not have to resort to that, so please pay you dues on time.

  3. SUBMITTING SCORES: The preferred way to submit your scores is to hand Zach the scorecard at the course after your round. If that is not an option, text him a copy of the scorecard. You can also email them. If you do email, please include the team numbers (very important!), each golfer's name, the course, nine played, and hole-by-hole scores separated by white space. Total score is optional since it will be calculated anyway, but is good to include for a math check. For example:

    Team 3 vs Team 7
    Hominy Hill front nine
    Joe Golfer 5 5 3 7 6 5 4 5 6 - 46

Whenever there is doubt, also indicate what the matchups were. Otherwise, the software will determine the pairings based on handicap. Prior to playing your match, remember that the lower handicap on each team plays against each other. At the beginning of the season, that typically means that the A players play each other. However, handicaps can change over the course of the season, so be aware of who's playing who. In the case of teams with identical handicaps, A plays A and B plays B. If, however, you make other pairings on the course, those will stand (just let the flight secretary know).

  4. RULES: Please be familiar with the USGA Rules of Golf and our league rules. Pay particular attention to the sections on local rules, rescheduled matches, forfeits and attendance.

  5. ETIQUETTE: Please practice good golf etiquette on the course. Try a Google Search on golf etiquette. Oh, and keep it moving out there!

  6. PRIZES: Prizes will be allocated in accordance with the league rules, adjusted a bit for this flight. An email is typically sent explaining the breakout.

  7. TEE TIMES: Our league gets no special privileges at the Monmouth County golf courses. You are responsible for arranging with your opponents who will make the tee time for the following week. Worst case is you both make tee times and cancel one of them (but try to avoid this). If you are canceling a tee time, please send mail to the flight and let everyone know what time you are canceling in case someone needs it.

Also, remember that this is the Hominy Hill Monday flight; not Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You get the idea. Please try to play your match on Monday whenever possible and submit scores after the match or the next day.

  8. RAIN: We cannot slip the schedule every time it's a little wet on the course. Therefore, the policy is that the schedule will slip only when the course is closed on Monday afternoon. Otherwise you'll have to play and get wet, play another day, or match cards the following week. This is consistent with what other flights are doing.

  9. MATCHING CARDS: There sometimes is confusion as to exactly what “matching cards” means. In accordance with the league rules (and the way the golf software happens to work), “matching cards” means that one or both teams did not play a scheduled match, and the scores from the next scheduled match will also be used for the missed match. In other words, one set of scores is used for two different matches (but only counts as one match for handicap and prize purposes). Matching cards does not mean the two teams play on separate nights and “match” the two cards (although that is permissible if both teams agree and the flight secretary is informed - please try to avoid this).
